I'm all deflated and tyredspotted at work today that I have a nail head (tack head maybe) embedded into the rear tyre, just off the center line in the middle of a rubber patch (ie away from any tread)
Any advice as to what to do, I don't want to buy a new tyre as there's plenty of life left in this one (and not cheap either as only one specific tyre is rated for the ST1300)
rode the bike home OK, didn't go above 50 and expected it to deflated at any time but it got me home and seems to have a good slug of air still in there (not psi tested but hand pushing on tyre it feels "normal")
Advice please, Ultra Seal, plug it, get a tyre
The wisdoms of your experiences much appreciated
Alan
Sad and bike-less till its fixed.

Sorry to hear that Alan.
I'd pull the nail, then compare the length of it with the depth of the tread. More nail than tread, and the tyre goes.
I know it's an unwelcome expense but, if there is any any doubt whatsoever I'd bite the bullet and buy a new tyre.
I don't want to think about the consequences of a blow-out at high speed.

Is the nail head very worn? Does it look like it's been in there a while? Has the tyre lost any pressure?
If it's been in there for sometime, without causing a problem, I'd leave well enough alone. It's possible the nail hasn't actually punctured the tyre, only stuck in the rubber. Keep checking the tyre pressures regularly.
You could put in some Tyreweld/Finilac as a precaution, but certainly carry some with you at all times - just in case.
....in my opinion

Totally agree John.
Personally, I would not chance it.
Tyres and brakes are the 2 things that I won't gamble with.

A friend of mine had a simular problem, got the bike home and then pulled the nail out only to find it had not gone through the whole tyre. It was just the head.
I say pull it and check it. The thing is if you leave it you will not relax as you will not be able to trust the tyre.
Thats a my girly opinion

I usually go to a place near Broad Green in Wellingborough called Wilford Tyres. The 2 old boys there are brilliant and cheap .

Alan sorry to hear about your tyre. Woolford Tyres are used by my father he thoroughly recommends them.

Had a chance to look at my tyre and remove the "object"
Dosn't look good does it The tyre completely deflated on removal with a 3mm hole in it
Going to need a new tyre so I'll miss the ride out this week as I don't think I'll get it done in time.
Should be sorted by 27th for my EOR though

Hi Alan
Sorry to hear about the tyre but what on earth is the object? Looks like some sort of rivet.
