Following various suggestions regarding a punting evening with the club, Sue & I decided to go off to Cambridge last Sunday and suss it out. We found a great pub by the river and then we paid £14 for a six man punt for an hour. Great fun but at one stage I nearly found out how waterproof my bike kit was.... Must have bashed into ten other boats but nobody seemed to mind. The most difficult part was when you really needed steerage under the low bridges and the pole kept hitting the roof. Sue told me that the problem was that, obviously, my pole was too long...?!
Unfortunately we went along the Bedford bypass, not a very inspiring road, and then we stopped at the American war cemetery which was sobering.
We will need to find a better route for the ride-out.

could the punting possibly be incorporated in the branch camping weekend on the Saturday as a rideout / day out and back to pub for evening festivities??

I spoke to Stritchy about the punting idea as part of the Camping weekend and we are not sure if it could be fitted in as they are hoping to have a BBQ etc in the afternoon/evening.

Also it sounds like this punting day out warrants a FULL day so lets get our heads together and come up with a day for the diary.
